Phonesy started out small: I (Bram Sullot) regularly browsed Marktplaats looking for good deals. Every now and then, I bought something to resell. I soon focused on Apple products, as there was especially high demand and supply for iPhones.

But I also discovered the downside of buying through online marketplaces. You have to rely on an anonymous username and often poor or unclear photos. That is far from ideal when making a purchase worth hundreds of euros, so many people did not dare take the step.

Many customers told me the same thing: they wanted a second-hand iPhone, but listings felt unreliable, communication was unfriendly, or even worse: they were scammed or received a device that turned out not to be in proper condition.

I constantly encountered these risks and frustrations myself. I wanted to offer a solution.
