Buying a refurbished iPhone: what should you look out for?

Buying a refurbished iPhone: what should you look out for?

A refurbished iPhone is a smart purchase: you pay considerably less than for a new one and get virtually the same experience. But not every seller is the same, and the term refurbished is not protected. One seller thoroughly refurbishes a device, while another simply puts a sticker on it. So pay attention to the following points, and you can buy with confidence.

1. Warranty and return period

A reliable seller is willing to offer a warranty. Look for at least a twelve-month warranty and a fourteen-day return period. If you do not get that, the seller apparently is not willing to take any risks themselves, and that says enough. At Phonesy, you get a standard 12-month warranty and a 14-day return period on every device.

2. The battery condition is stated

The battery is the only component that genuinely ages. That is why an honest seller states the exact battery condition as a percentage. If nothing is mentioned about the battery, or there is only a vague phrase such as "good battery", be careful. We show the measured percentage for every device, so you know what to expect in advance.

3. Real photos of the actual device

Stock photos say nothing about the device you will receive at home. With a refurbished device, you want to see what that specific device looks like, including any scratches. We photograph every device individually. What you see in the photo is what you receive.

4. Original parts

Cheap counterfeit parts break more quickly and cause problems more often, for example with screen quality or Face ID. Ask whether original Apple parts are used. With us, that is always the case.

5. A clear condition description

Good sellers use clear condition levels, so you know how many signs of use to expect. This way, you do not pay too much for minor scratches that you cannot see anyway, and you know exactly what you are getting. Read here what our condition levels mean.

6. Secure payment

Preferably pay with a method that protects you, such as iDEAL, credit card, or paying afterward with Klarna. If you are asked to transfer money in advance to a private account, walk away. We offer all trusted payment methods.

7. A verifiable company behind the store

A genuine company has a KVK number, a VAT number, and clear contact details. If you cannot find these anywhere, you are buying from an unknown seller. Our company details are listed at the bottom of every page.

In brief

Pay attention to the warranty, a stated battery condition, real photos, and a verifiable company, and you can buy a refurbished iPhone without worry. Ready to take a look? Browse our refurbished iPhones or feel free to ask a question before ordering.
