What does an iPhone’s battery health mean?

With a refurbished iPhone, you will always come across the term battery health, usually shown as a percentage. It may be the most important number on the product page, yet many people do not know exactly what it means. We will explain it clearly, without complicated terms.

What exactly is battery health?

Every iPhone battery can hold a certain amount of energy. When new, that capacity is 100 percent. As you charge and use your phone, the battery may gradually hold slightly less. Battery health shows, as a percentage, how much of the original capacity remains. If it shows 90 percent, the battery can still hold ninety percent of what it could when new.

When is a percentage considered good?

A simple rule of thumb: above 90 percent is excellent and feels like new. Between 85 and 90 percent is still perfectly fine for a full day of normal use. Apple itself states that a battery around 80 percent still functions well; only below that level will you notice that your phone runs out of power sooner. For a refurbished device, a battery health of 85 percent or higher is a healthy starting point.

What if the battery eventually wears out?

There is no need to panic. The battery is the only component that genuinely ages, and it is also easy and affordable to replace, especially compared with buying a new device. An iPhone with a replaced battery feels like new again. So you do not have to throw away a perfectly good phone just because its battery becomes less efficient after several years.
